Faces of FPRA: Member spotlight – Susan Frantz
As the Southwest Florida Chapter of FPRA celebrates its 40th anniversary, we recognize that our Chapter’s continued success is made possible through the dedication and impact of our members. Throughout our 40th year, we are proudly shining the spotlight on our members, celebrating their journeys, expertise and contributions to our professional community.
For our February member spotlight, we’re proud to spotlight a Q&A with Immediate Past SWFL Chapter President Susan Frantz of Frantz Marketing on the value of Chapter membership.
How long have you been an FPRA member? What initially interested you in joining?
SUSAN: I initially joined FPRA in 2014 but became an active member in 2021. As an agency owner, I recognized the value of connecting with and learning from like-minded professionals who share a passion and dedication to public relations and strategic communication.
What leadership position(s) have you held in FPRA? What have you found was/is the most rewarding part of leadership in the organization?
SUSAN: Since joining, I’ve had the privilege of serving as Social Media Co-Chair, VP of Membership, President, and now Immediate Past President. Each role has provided unique opportunities for growth and learning. My time as VP of Membership was especially rewarding, as it allowed me to serve on the Executive Board, build stronger relationships with fellow members, and personally welcome new members to the chapter.
Serving as President has been one of the most fulfilling roles in both my professional and personal life. During my tenure, I leaned into the incredible talents of our board and team to achieve remarkable goals and host impactful events. These experiences reinforced the importance of collaboration and strategic leadership in our field.
As a past President, what are the skills, traits, or competencies that you feel make an exceptional PR professional AND FPRA member?
SUSAN: As President, I had the opportunity to hone my foundational communication skills and elevate them to engage both our FPRA members and the greater community. Through this role, I gained an even deeper appreciation for the importance of teamwork, adaptability, and collaboration. An exceptional PR professional and FPRA member should have the ability to pivot in challenging situations, embrace change, and lead with confidence. Equally important is recognizing that you don’t have to navigate challenges alone—being unafraid to ask for help fosters stronger connections and better outcomes. Success in our field requires a blend of strategic thinking, empathy, and a willingness to continually learn from and support one another.
How have you grown (professionally, personally) as a member of FPRA?
SUSAN: FPRA has been instrumental in my growth, both professionally and personally. These experiences reinforced that success in public relations—and in leadership—requires adaptability, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous learning.
FPRA has also provided me with access to invaluable professional development opportunities, including crisis communication strategies and credentialing programs such as APR and CPRC. These resources have sharpened my skills and enhanced my confidence in navigating complex challenges. Additionally, being part of FPRA has opened incredible doors and opportunities. As a new member of the state board, serving as VP of Communications, I’ve had the chance to broaden my perspective, connect with professionals across Florida, and contribute to initiatives that amplify our association’s impact. FPRA has not only enriched my professional toolkit but also deepened my personal connections within the industry, making it an invaluable part of my journey.
Why did you become an annual sponsor of FPRA? Why do you feel this is a good investment for your business?
SUSAN: I became an annual sponsor of FPRA because I believe in supporting the chapter’s growth and success. Sponsorship allows me to contribute to the chapter’s flourishing community while also positioning Frantz Marketing Solutions alongside a leading communications and PR association. This partnership not only reflects my commitment to advancing the industry but also increases brand awareness for my business, aligning it with the high standards and credibility of FPRA.
What one piece of advice would you give to someone who is brand-new to the chapter?
SUSAN: My advice to someone new to the chapter is simple: don’t be afraid to reach out and connect with fellow members. FPRA is filled with fun, like-minded professionals who are eager to share their experiences and help one another grow. If you ever find yourself in a bind or unsure how to handle a particular communications situation, chances are high that someone in this organization has faced a similar challenge and can offer valuable advice or guidance. Building relationships within FPRA not only enhances your professional network but also provides an incredible support system to navigate the ups and downs of our industry.
