President’s Message: Giving Back Through Servant Leadership
During this season of gratitude and giving, I want to take a moment to highlight one of our chapter’s core values: Servant Leadership – We lead by prioritizing the needs and growth of others, helping our members reach their full potential. While we talk about our members, this value also inspires us to extend our leadership, fostering growth and opportunity within the community that supports us.
This month, I invite you to embrace the spirit of giving through the Friends of Janet Merry Givemas Toy Drive. This annual fundraiser honors Janet Wilson, a friend, colleague and FPRA member who we lost suddenly and tragically in 2019. Donating a toy in her memory is a chance to spread holiday cheer to children in need, while celebrating the legacy of a woman who exemplified joy and care for our community.
As we look beyond the holidays, I’m excited to introduce emPoweR40, a special initiative celebrating our chapter’s 40th anniversary by giving back in meaningful ways. emPoweR40 builds on our commitment to servant leadership, offering opportunities for members to make an impact.
One such opportunity is Soarin’ Connections (#FlocktoyourFuture), an inaugural event co-hosted with our FGCU Student Chapter and the Department of Communications and Philosophy. On Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 4:30pm – 6pm at FGCU’s Water School, this event will connect professional members with student chapter members, helping guide the next generation of PR and Communications practitioners. If you are interested in participating, please email me or Education Chair Jada Bigord.
Looking ahead, I am working on developing a program to connect our members with nonprofits in need of PR and communications expertise. This initiative will enable us to use our professional skills to support organizations that give so much to others. Stay tuned for more details as this exciting project takes shape.
This season and throughout the remainder of our year, let’s challenge ourselves to live our value of servant leadership. Your involvement will make this a year of service, growth, and meaningful connections.
I hope you have a joyful holiday season.
